I have been working as art director with the Idler magazine since 2005.
In 2007, the Idler became an annual hardback magazine with cloth binding and foil blocked titling, the interior was printed on fine paper stock, the design became stripped back, black ink only – containing mostly essays with very minimal illustrations and decoration. In late 2015, we decided to redesign and completely change the format and approach – the magazine became a full colour printed A5 size bi-monthly paperback magazine.
I create a lot of the editorial illustrations in every issue, and over the years I've commissioned an extensive list of illustrators, artists and photographers including Clifford Harper, Stanley Donwood, Sam Green, Holly Wales, and very recently for the last few issues – Ellie Foreman Peck.
